We feel refugee education should be a top priority. Recent studies by U.N.C.H.R and AFAD show that Syrian refugees living in camps are in need of basic education at all levels and underlies the magnitude of scarcity for education programmes in camps. In the past camp education has relied on volunteers. Some were teachers in Syria but most were not. As volunteers are not bound by hard and fast schedules or curriculum their instruction and time with the children is often inconsistent. We want to employ qualified teachers and will be using elements of the official Turkish curriculum to enable students to transfer to the Turkish schools and elements of the Syrian curriculum to enable education to continue in Syria should the day come when they can return. Apart from paying the teachers salary there is a need to purchase Teaching aids, Text books, notebooks, stationery, chalkboards, desk, chairs, laptop to enable the children to learn about the worldwide web, fans for the heat and heaters for the winter. We would also like to provide each child with their own school bag. For those children able to attend in the Turkish schooling system we hope to be able to help with transport and the purchase of uniforms etc and hopefully provide a scholarship to a limited number of children. This is a very ambitious project but I am sure we can achieve it with your help. paypal.me/LilyTurkey we have made a start by collecting pens, pencils etc and making pencil cases in our stitching group and purchasing school bags.

Make It Your New Year Resolution To Help Syrian Children!
Here are some of the ways you can help us to provide that comfort:
If you are a knitter or crocheter please consider making an 8inch square or two with your odds and ends of yarn. It's a great way to bust your stash and the squares will be joined to form blankets and given to Syrian refugees. Every square is a hug from someone who cares! you can also send us completed blankets if you prefer.
We also need Sweaters, Hats, scarves, gloves, socks infact anything that will help to keep a child warm during the cold winter months.
If you do not knit or crochet maybe you would like to make a donation to help to pay for the transportation costs- we make a delivery into the camps every month. You can do this by clicking on the Donate button at the side of this page.
Lack of access to food and severe malnutrition have meant that mothers have been unable to feed their babies adequately. In addition, the conflict has made orphans of tens of thousands of children, and these include countless motherless babies, who may have been left in the care of grandmothers or other relatives.
'LILY' has been regularly supplying milk formula to hundreds of babies in the hard-hit areas every month. We urgently need babies bottles to be able to feed these babie the formula, giving these innocent infants a fighting chance of survival in the hostile circumstances into which they have been born. Therefore I am asking if you could spare a few pounds/ dollars etc. to enable us to buy bottles to be able to feed them the formula to help save these baby's lives.
Pounds SterlingI have found a family run factory here in Turkey that makes flat toweling nappies that will sell them to LILY at a greatly reduced price. These will fit all ages.... so the same nappies will last one child from baby right through to toddler stage and are easy to wash thoroughly by hand and quick to dry. We can buy a pack of 12 re-usable toweling 100% Turkish cotton nappies 60cm x 60cm for 28 turkish lira which works out around 7 pounds sterling (10 us dollars).

The denial of bread - has become a weapon of war!
Bakeries providing a lifeline to communities have become a regular target for air strikes.
The acute suffering of civilian communities has been made immeasurably worse by a shortage of bread, Syrian’s staple food, caused in part by the deliberate bombing of bakeries. At 'LILY' we are doing our best to try and ease the plight of the Syrian civilian population, who feel abandoned by the rest of the world by making sure that they at least get fresh bread daily. Families queue up for hours in the hope of purchasing even a single bag of bread, and frequently return home empty-handed.
Due to your generous support for our Syria Bread Appeal in August 2014, 'LILY' and local partners were able to refurbish and restore an abandoned bakery in Idlib which had been forced to shutdown due to fuel and flour shortages. We have been able to supply bread to 5 villages, providing bread for around 2,200 families. We need your support to ensure that we are able to provide this lifeline!

As more and more Syrians are fleeing Syria and trying to head for Europe we are starting to find Syrian families on the Streets of Kuşadasi as we are less than 1 hour away across the sea from the Greek island of Samos. When we can we help them by feeding and clothing them plus help to find them shelter. If you could spare a lira (pound, dollar) or two that would be a great help. Please use the donate buttons below.

Help 'LILY' Provide A Little Comfort For Syrian Children
Syrian
refugees at a refugee camp in the Turkish border town of Yayladagi.
Photograph: Umit Bektas/Reuters
At the beginning of this year, it was estimated that the number of Syrian refugees would hit one million by the middle of 2013. That grim threshold was reached last month, which turned out to be the two-year-old conflict's deadliest month. And, today just six weeks later, there are 1.3 million Syrian refugees. In late March, Antonio Guterres, the UN's High Commissioner for Refugees, told a Congressional hearing that there might be as many as four million Syrian refugees by the end of 2013. Also in March, the UN estimated that there were 3.6 million internally displaced persons in Syria; the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is likely to revise that number upwards perhaps as high as 4.5 million, in the coming weeks. Even though Turkey is currently in the process of building six new refugee camps, on top of the 17 that already exist Turkey's camps can't expand fast enough for all the new Syrian Refugees and, along the Turkish-Syrian border, there are an estimated 100,000 people living between the front lines of the conflict and Turkish border.
Can you help us provide a little comfort for the children in these camps?
Any spare wool you have can be knitted, crocheted or woven into eight inch squares and then we'll stitch them all together into a blanket. No waste and a child with nothing gets a warm and colourful, cover for their bed!
I realise the cost of sending items by post especially to Turkey can be costly which is why we are asking for just 3 squares ( of course we'll also accept more). If you could knit or crochet just 3 squares they would fit easily into an envelope and postage shouldn't be too great!
It really will make a difference to a child's life!
We work with reputable, experienced relief agencies to securely transport and distribute our hand-knit and crocheted blankets.

Blankets for 2 New Syrian Refugee Camps In Turkey.
Syrian refugee camp in Turkey (Reuters)
Turkey
is building two camps along its far southeastern border with Syria to
house a growing number of refugees from Syrian minority groups,
mainly Assyrian Christians as well as ethnic Kurds. More 250,000
Syrians fleeing civil war in their homeland have registered in
Turkey, most of whom stay in 17 camps along the 900-km (560-mile)
border, although the total number of refugees is closer to 400,000.
The two tented camps, to be completed in less than a month, are being
built in Midyat, a town in southeastern Mardin province some 50 km
from the Syrian border. One camp with a capacity of 2,500 people will
house mainly Assyrian Christians as well as refugees from other
Christian denominations. The other camp will have a capacity of 3,000
and would house any Syrian Kurds fleeing the violence. We have been asked if we could help out with supplying blankets.
Can you help us? with just three 8inch squares. Any spare wool you have can be knitted, crocheted or woven into eight inch squares and then we'll stitch them all together into a blanket. No waste and a child with nothing gets a warm and colourful, cover for their bed!

Knit For Syria's Children.
Families seeking refuge inside Syria
have had to endure two winters that saw snow fall across much
of the country, with temperatures as
low as -8°C. Families fled, often without enough time to gather
winter clothing for children. This winter, rationing of the power
supply severely limited electric heating. Shortages of fuel pushed
the price of kerosene up by as much as 500%, making it impossible for
the poorest families to heat their shelters; in one area, 80% of
households could not afford heating. This makes warm shelters and
blankets all the more important, but in 2012 only 30% of those who
needed blankets received them.
It really will make a difference to a child's life!

Just 3 Little Squares!
Syria has suffered its deadliest month so far in the two-year conflict, with more than 6,000 people killed in March, a third of them civilians. Almost 300 children died, taking the number of children killed in the conflict to around 4,390.As Syria's civil war continues unabated, thousands of children have fled across the border, terrified and desperate for safe refuge from the spiraling violence. Humanitarian needs are at critical levels inside Syria, with more than 4 million people in urgent need of relief. We at 'Lily' Love In the Language of Yarn are trying to reach these children and bring them a little comfort and wramth.
You can help us with just three 8inch squares. Any spare wool you have can be knitted, crocheted or woven into eight inch squares and then we'll stitch them all together into a blanket. No waste and a child with nothing gets a warm and colourful, cover for their bed!
Your lovingly made square will send a message of concern and hope to these refugees. Your participation is important.!
I realise the cost of sending items by post especially to Turkey can be costly which is why we launched this 3 square appeal. PLEASE spare a thought for the Children of the Syrian refugees and if you could knit or chrochet just 3 squares they would fit easily into an envelope and postage shouldn't be too great, or if you prefer to donate a small amount (3tl which is equivelent to 1pound sterling or 1.70 us dollar) then we'll buy the yarn and knit 3 squares for you.
It really will make a difference to a child's life!
